PROFESSOR ALEXANDER ANTONOVICH SMUROV – FOUNDER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HIGH VOLTAGE ENGINEERING, RECTOR OF LETI

Alexander Antonovich Smurov (1884–1937) is one of the founders of high voltage engineering in our country, scientist, has earned international reputation. Being the rector of Leningrad electrotechnical Institute (1925–1929), was able to arrange his scientific and pedagogical staff of the solution of the most important for the development of the state tasks in the field of power engineering, electrical and radio engineering, both in terms of training of engineering personnel, and in addressing major research and production problems. Has created one of the world's largest Laboratory of high voltage engineering, became a scientific center on the formation of a number of new scientific directions.
